We were on the brink of losing all subscribers with Yahoo addresses who are
subscribed to Lactnet due to issues with Yahoo as described in the email
below. Lsoft, the company who graciously hosts our list for free, has made
some adjustments to address this problem with the Yahoo addresses. Please
note that the issues lie with Yahoo, not Lsoft. Please read the email below
carefully, especially the part about mail being potentially rerouted into
your spam or junk folder.

If you get deleted from Lactnet, no worries! You do not need to email us
asking to be put back on the list. You can just resubscribe at any time
using the command "subscribe Lactnet firstname lastname" and sending it to
[log in to unmask]

Kathy, on behalf of all the listmothers.

Subject: Re: What to do about your Yahoo.com subscribers?

First, let's be clear on what is happening.

A subscriber/list member from *@besteffort.com address (or other private
domain, i.e. not one of the big webmail domains) posts a message to your
list.
It goes to all subscribers. No problem for anyone.

A subscriber/list member with a From: *@yahoo.com posts a message (or a
reply to the above message) to your list. This will go to a few
subscribers, but will NOT go to subscribers/list members at yahoo.com,
hotmail.com, live.com, msn.com, outlook.com, Comcast.net, Gmail.com and
several other domains.

Messages to subscribers at these domains will not only not be delivered but
will be bounced/rejected as if the recipients at those domains do not exist.
Thus, after a few such messages with a From: *@yahoo.com, your subscribers
at all of those problematic domains are at risk to be auto-deleted from your
list(s). This may amount to more than half of your total subscribers!
Obviously this is a very bad situation, but it is a situation made by
Yahoo.com in disregard of the convenience to their users.

L-Soft has installed a new build of LISTSERV on COMMUNITY.LSOFT.COM to
address this problem.

List messages to your lists with From: *@yahoo.com addresses will be
re-written like this:

Original From: Ben Parker <[log in to unmask]>

Re-written From: Ben Parker <[log in to unmask]>

This will prevent the DMARC rejections and related bounces from all of the
problematic domains. This covers all of the related yahoo.* domains such as
yahoo.ca, yahoo.fr, yahoo.co.uk, etc as well as a few other non-yahoo
domains.

------------------------------------------------------------
Please alert L-Soft of any problems you encounter with this!
------------------------------------------------------------

Side effects of this change you need to inform your subscribers about:

1. Because the From: address has changed, list mail may no longer route
into subscriber's expected list mail folder. Mail may instead go into a
'spam' or 'junk' folder. Users will need to deal with this in whatever way
is necessary for their own mail client. List Owners should tell their
subscribers about this so they know where to look for 'lost' mail.

Users need to be proactive about this because if list mail stays in a 'spam'
or 'junk' folder, it will lower the deliverability 'score' of all list mail
for all lists from your server.

2. 'Reply to sender' won't work, because the From: address has been
changed.
If users want to reply privately to the sender, they will need to manually
edit the To: address.

'Reply to List' will work as usual. 'Reply to All' will work but only
halfway.
Again the 'Reply to List' will work but the 'Reply to sender' will need to
be manually changed as noted above.

If you have adjusted the Auto-Delete settings for your list, you may want to
wait for a couple of days to re-adjust them.

If you have set your *@yahoo.com subscribers to NOPOST or to REVIEW, you can
now reset them and allow them to POST messages to your list.
