Hello Betty, I used to make home visits to the moms who were discharged
from the hospital after 24 hours. I usually saw them within 48 hours of
dismissal. A complete post partum check up was included, a newborn exam,
and, if breastfeeding, a Q/A session with whatever assistance was
necessary, during the one visit. The breastfeeding assistance was on my
own incentive. I was being paid by the home health division of the
hospital I worked for as a mother/baby nurse. Many of the mom's were
insured by the HMO that was owned by the hospital, so the visits were
included in the maternity package, as long as they went home in 24 hours,
48 for c/s. Hope this helps. Oh, by the way, I was paid by the visit,
not hour, so I was able to spend as much time as I wanted to on the
breastfeeding assistance. The visits with the bottle feeding moms went
very quickly, so it all evened out pretty well. Until they started
assigning me nearly all the breastfeeding moms! :)

Later I worked for a company who does the high risk pregnancy home visits,
for tokolitic therapy, hypertension, diabetes, hyperemisis, etc. If the
mom qualified for a postpartum visit, I was usually sent on those as well,
with the same general scenario.

Best wishes on your study, let me know if I can help further.

Denny
