A colleague's pt. is experiencing severe engorgement after very gentle
weaning of her 8 month old. She gradually reduced feedings, down to 1
feed per day. Never experienced breast discomfort during the weaning
process - reports breasts remained very soft and comfortable. One
week following last breastfeeding episode, she's experiencing severe
engorgement. No meds, no hormones being taken. She does not desire
to resume breastfeeding.
1. Why is this happening
2. Any other comfort measures in addition to intermittent cool packs
and analgesia?
Thanks very much for your ideas Sallie Page-Goertz, CPNP, IBCLC - KU
Children's Center. E- mail me directly:
