Hi Lori

Do a search of lactnet. This was discussed at great length the summer(I
think) of 1995. You could search the subject and/or search Joan Fisher,
because she presented cases where this happened. She consulted Dr. Ruth
Lawrence at one time about this and was advised that some moms with very
high fat content to their milk find that their milk becomes rancid smelling
after freezing/thawing. It's best in this situation to scald the milk (heat
just up to but not past, the boiling point). Also, milk keeps much better in
glass or hard plastic containers than bottle liners. The bottle liners are
not designed to store frozen breast milk. A change in the container might
make a difference.

To do the search, send message to [log in to unmask] and in message
write:

     search Joan Fisher in lactnet

(or) search rancid breast milk in lactnet.

Good Luck
