Regarding the diet requirements.

The line I use is "You can eat only cheezies* and pepsi and make milk which
is better than any artificial one but you will be sick" I then go on to
talk about how demanding a job it can be to parent and mothers deserve to
take care of themselves by eating well, taking prenatal vitamins etc.  I
see a lot of teen parents and high risk parents and this goes over really
well. It is quick, kind of funny and they "get the message".  This removes
the 'breastfeeding diet' angle and makes it one of parenting well requires
reasonable nutrition.

*for those unfamiliar with them cheezies are a snack food that in my mind
closely resembles flavoured styrofoam. For some unknown reason it is
greatly favoured by my 85 year old normally health conscious mother.
