I have missed some of the posts on this subject, and would appreciate it if
somebody would provide a summary of the reason that adjusting
foremilk/hindmilk in feedings eliminates (sometimes I guess) the bloody
stools, baby distress, and DX of allergy, either to the mother's milk, or to
dairy in which the mother eliminates it from her diet. I believe it is
related to lactose presence, but do not know the mechanism that causes
bloody stools to be the result. Could I further reveal my ignorance, and
wonder why pediatricians do not jump on this one, since it seems to have
very positive results and avoids all the other solutions that I have heard,
including weaning immediately?
If there is a textbook that explains it, just the reference would be fine.
Still constantly amazed by how much I don't know and how much I have learned
about breastfeeding!
