Hi Nikki,
I think drinking Kombucha is fine in reasonable amounts. I ran a quick pubmed search and found 2 case reports in the last 10 years, one of liver toxicity and one of gastrointestinal toxicity. I don't have access to the articles.
I suppose that if the mushroom used to make the tea is toxic, then it would cause harm to mom and baby.
If the Kombucha is pasteurized it might be safer.
Anne

Dear Lactnet Friends:

Thank you Anne Eglash, for the source of this fear about kombucha. From what you found, the potential and theoretical risk is for the mother, not the baby. Is that correct?

Does it seem over-reactive to be fearful of kombucha after 2 case reports
21 years ago?

warmly, a drinker of homemade kefir,
