In my experience in NICU, PICU, etc, many women are uncomfortable with men 
around while they are pumping, more so than when they are actually nursing. 
I think they feel more exposed when attached to a pump than to a baby.  If 
the curtains are there, they might still hear the sound of a man's voice. 
Then again, many women are fine with pumping around men.  I would think that 
as long as the curtains are there, most women would be okay as long as they 
knew about the possibility of men being there.

In my personal experience, I would pump in the staff break room.  I was 
occasionally walked in upon by male staff, but not often.  Often the men 
would leave because they felt uncomfortable (no curtains there).  The 
funniest thing that happened to me when I was pumping was from a very 
unexpected source.  Our break room was on the 7th floor of the hospital. 
One day while pumping I looked out the window to see a window washer looking 
in at me.  He looked pretty surprised, although I have heard that window 
washers see everything.
