RE:  Fluconazole

I would like to add support to Dr. Eglash's comments on using
Fluconazole(Diflucan).   I fully concur  with her comments.  We have a long
history using fluconazole in a pediatric population.  The FDA has even
designated the product as safe down to 1 day of age.   I agree that it is
horribly expensive(perhaps I should say Outrageously expensive),  but its
safety profile in pediatric patients is exemplary.

        I do not think that nizoral is a suitable alternative.  Nizoral
requires an acid stomach to be absorbed.  With the constant presence of
milk,  an acid environment suitable for absorption of nizoral is unlikely,
and could conceivably markedly reduce the absorption of nizoral in an
infant(we don't know for sure) .   If offers no real advantages over
fluconazole.
