Dear Julie,

I wonder if the recommendations given mothers planned adoptive nursing would also work in this case? Mothers I have worked with have had positive results following the protocols on the "Ask Lenore" site https://www.asklenore.info/breastfeeding/induced_lactation/gn_protocols.shtml

In addition to hand expression, a hospital grade pump was essential for the mothers I have assisted with induced lactation. As previously mentioned, I would not have an expectation of nursing at the breast - yet, if the breast is offered and the child accepts, that would be a big plus for the overall ability to produce closer to the volumes optimal for the baby. I never underestimate the benefits of having the skin-to-skin connection.

Best of luck to this mother. She is fortunate to have your support.
