Hi all,
The new Australian Dietary Guidelines have at last been released. We
have been waiting a *long* time for these, as NMAA/ABA had input into
the revision *years* ago now. (I was part of the NMAA/ABA team that
commented. These guidelines are probably due for *another* revision
;-))

I heard a rumour that industry was holding them up, playing delaying
tactics of some sort (no details, sorry) as the new guidelines set
the period of exclusive breastfeeding at 6 months. This will mean
that manufacturers of baby food will have to cease putting 'from 4
months' on labels and are set to lose the market share of families
with babies between 4 and 6 months.

A media report can be found at
http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/06/19/1055828437952.html
'Breast is best for two months longer, Australia's nursing mothers have been
advised.
New national dietary guidelines have extended to six months the period
during which mothers should feed their babies only breast milk.'
