Mary wrote in response to Angela:
Angela, if you have read a "lot" of their material, you know that this sa=
me=20 woman also advocates HITTING BABIES as young as FOUR MONTHS with either
a tree "switch" (using a "tree branch" for older children) and also using=
a thin (and very painful) length of Plumbing Tubing

In Angela's defense, she simply responded to the question about how the Pearls address breastfeeding. From what I know of the Pearls, Angela's response was accurate. That is indeed how they discuss breastfeeding. Angela did not comment on their "child training" techniques. This discussion reveals the danger in the Pearls' child-training program; their breastfeeding advice looks very cozy and loving and attachment-oriented, but it is very inconsistent with the rest of what they recommend in "training" babies and children. When a mother mentions that she read that the family bed is a good thing, it is still wise to ask her what she's reading to open a discussion. She might be reading Dr. Sears, but obviously she could be reading the Pearls, too. If that is the case, the door has been opened for the LC to engage in further discussions about their recommendations and help steer her to other materials before it's too late. Thank you to Angela to pointing out that these folks make some recommendations regarding breastfeeding that sound very reasonable on the surface but that reason comes to an abrupt end with them.
