Why do you think this membrane is porous?

The PIS has a face plate that is easy to remove to check for mould. You can clean the membrane (porous) with a weak vinegar solution if wanted. Be careful not to remove the membrane, because then the pump has to go back to Medela for re-attachment. Though, if there is mould present, it might not be a bad idea to take off the membrane, clean it thoroughly and then send it back in for repair? When I opened up a well used PIS the other day, expecting to see mould, it was clean, I suggest mom's check. The pump shouldn't grow mould unless moisture has entered the tubes and the pump, which is fairly unlikely as long as tubes are dried thoroughly and mom is leaning forward a bit when pumping so that milk doesn't back up. As for the membrane, I have no idea why they can't use a non-porous one, and when I asked I was advised they wouldn't be changing it.
