OK, here's my .02$ worth.
My daughter slept through the night ONE time at about 5 weeks of
age. Didn't do it again until well after 10 months. Guess what.
Exactly 2 weeks later I had a period and they continued regularly
thereafter. I was exclusively breastfeeding-no supps, no pacifier,
and except for that one night, she didn't go more than 4 or 5 hours
at most between nursings-most were lots closer together. Go
figure! I really believe that some women's systems are more
sensitive than others to the factors that trigger return of menses.
I have heard of others who had a baby sleep through once who either
did not get a period or had one two weeks later and than no more
until when baby slept through "for keeps".
I cringe when I hear either "If you breastfeed right you won't get
pregnant" or "Breastfeeding offers NO protection against
pregnancy". The truth lies between. Closer to one statement for
some, closer to the other for others.
Winnie Mading-haven't thought about periods for I won't say how many
years.
