Wise Ones,
Have any of you correlated a nursing mother's intake of Splenda
sweetener (also known as sucralose) to fussiness/gas in the baby?  I saw
a mom yesterday with a very fussy 4-week old baby.  Mom reported that
baby's tummy "gurgles" a lot.  Weight gain is above average.  We talked
extensively about mom's diet.  The only 2 things that came up as
possible offenders were mom's iron supplements and the fact that she
drinks one Diet Rite cola per day.  I wouldn't have thought much about
the Diet Rite except that I saw a mom earlier this month who had a baby
with similar symptoms.  Once the previous mom eliminated the Splenda
from her diet, the baby's fussiness went away.  I searched the Lactnet
archives and came up with very little information.  Has anyone else
noticed this reaction in babies?  I did a search on Google and came up
with a long list of foods that contain Splenda.
