>Does it make any sense for a mother breastfeeding twins to have a longer
period of LAM?

From my personal experience...

With each of my three children, I started getting periods again by 2-3
months, even though they
*never came up for air,* nursing every hour on the hour - at least! -
24/7,
        no artificial nipples,
no solids before 5.5 months with the first, 10 months with the second
and third...
the first and second were nursed in tandem for six months. The elder
actually nursed more than the younger!

In addition, I became pregnant while nursing the first two in tandem,
despite using Natural Family Planning methods PLUS spermicide....

It just isnt fair, is it?

I think I read somewhere that women on a high protein diet and/or plumper
women (that's me!) tend to be more fertile sooner after childbirth. Has
anyone else heard that or have references?
