Over the years, I have taken it upon myself to remark (generally to the
company engineers, but often to reps at conferences over and over until they
were sick of me) about what I considered to be deficits in products I was
trying to use clinically. When I began to appreciate the range of nipple
sizes and to observe how much some women swelled during pumping, I called up
and asked to talk to company engineers to consider designing larger flanges.
I'm sure I was not the only one who did this, and today we have more
varieties of sized in flanges to chose from when helping a non-nursing or
separated mother protect her milk supply. (By the way, I never asked for
and never received pay for this input. Probably a stupid gesture of
corporate altruism from the point of view of business savvy individuals, but
a necessity to keep from being accused of selling out in our field. Which
is a conversation I'd very much like to have -- in terms of what being a
consultant means -- but I'll save that until another day)

My point in bringing this up is that why not approach Capital Vial about
custom designing milk storage containers? We are not powerless as consumers
and we do not have to accept less than what it is we actually need. In the
business world there is often interactive dialog between supplies and
customers. The containers Capital Vial have now are so good that many milk
banks use them. If we have a specific need (like threads) so that they
could also have a standard size or bulb size nipple screwed onto them, why
not approach the company about providing this design?

I have no financial interest in this company.
