greetings.....
I am a midwife-in -training and a potential (future) lactation consultant...my
aunt, who is an IBCLC suggested that i read lactnet, so i have been learning
lots since i subscribed a few weeks ago! I just got off the phone with a
friend whose bf baby just became hospitalized. Apparantly, there have been
problems with bf from the beginning. the baby was vomiting after bf and not
gaining much. they continued, reassured by dr.s that it would get
better,...the baby is 5 mos. and now cannot hold down any milk. the drs(I
dont know if any of them are breastfeeding experts)checked out her
diet, positioning of baby,..they gave the baby some soy formula which also did
not stay down. she is now hospitalized with an i.v. I urged my friend to tell
her neice that she needs to find a lactation consultant(she really wants to
bf) - the dr.s are doing tests-they gave the baby zantac.. has anyone dealt
with a situation like this?
i hope this is not too long! i felt compelled to try to help and wanted to
make sure i had accurate information! any advice is most welcome....!
