I have a small problem with a possible explanatory theory that I wanted to run past y'all:

I pumped milk for my son for 2 years and 3 months.
I stopped pumping 1 year and 3 months ago.
However, I can still get small amounts of milk in the shower.
A few weeks ago, I started having pain in my right breast, directly behind the nipple.
At first I thought it might be from the repetitive trauma of having a three year old who thinks breasts are handles. But the pain did not improve when I deterred him from using them as such.
My caffeine intake is unchanged.

The only thing that has changed is that we started the process to adopt a baby, and started talking about relactating.
The nurse-midwife I saw today thinks this may be a problem of some backed-up milk, and recommended starting vitamin E and evening primrose oil.
They have this printed on a little slip of paper. I think they give it to everyone with breast pain. They also want me to have a mammogram.

What do y'all think?
Thank you,
Laura Block, PharmD, will someday sit for the IBCLC boards, until then I am learning as much as I can!
