Martha - thank you for updating us on the tragic case in Oregon.  My heart
breaks for the Tyson family.  I find it absolutely UNBELIEVABLE (yes, I'm
shouting) that parents should lose custody of their baby because an
HIV-infected mother chooses to breastfeed when the evidence for risk of
transmission of the virus via breastfeeding is still so nebulous and
contradictory, and impossible to differentiate (at the present time) from
transmission before birth and during delivery. And to think that eight more
babies may lose their parents in the same way now that a precedent has been
set...  The mother has a *choice* in terms of the UNAIDS HIV and Infant
Feeding Guidelines about what to feed her baby.  This mother exercised that
choice and as a result she loses her baby.  This is a gross violation of
human rights.  In this country 125000 babies would be taken away from their
mothers this year if we followed the same thinking.
