I see nipple shields continuing to be used as a problem because of the
"lesser" stimulation to the breast affecting supply. It can also create all
the problems of "nipple confusion" and the subsequent bad latch. Yes.....I
know that there are rare instances when they can help a Mom get past a bad
spot.....but overall I avoid recommending them and get women off of them as
quickly as possible if they come to me using them. I also have fleeting
thoughts about how completely they cover the Montgomery glands and if it
might affect their function.
