Thank you for taking the time to answer in specifics for any that may not
know the information on nipple shields. I did not ask the "questions"
because I sought the information.....but rather to raise the flip side of the
coin on the issue in a nonconfrontive manner I'm glad you've found them to
be a "Godsend". I have seen more problems created than solved with their
use.

I have personal experience which can sometimes "cloud" perspective when
viewing studies.....but handled preemie twins with a flat and an inverted
nipple without the use of shields.

I'm mostly distressed to see so many women being handed nipple shields as a
"cure all" for simple nipple soreness, thrush, bad latch and flat/inverted
nipples......or my personal top of the list that aggravates me.....a Mom that
has been instructed that she needs to pump in addition to latching baby to
"bring her milk in" and has gotten sore and bleeding nipples from little to
no instruction on the use of the pump.....or that she doesn't need it.....and
is handed nipple shields to help with the pain until they heal.

I know. I'm preaching to the choir. :)
