This is a near-perfect description of the way my oldest child spit up
for the first 6.5 months of his life. He seemed perfectly happy, in
no way uncomfortable, while the "blurp" just rolled out of his mouth.
(Unlike this baby, however, he gained weight at an amazing rate in
those early months.) At 6.5 months I finally got serious about
eliminating *all* cow's milk protein from my diet, and the copious &
constant spitting up stopped. A diet challenge a few weeks later
confirmed his CMP sensitivity.

The connection between CMP and reflux is in the literature. Here is
just one abstract (there are more, but I'm pressed for time):
<http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov:80/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=8613639&dopt=Abstract>

Iacono G et al. Gastroesophageal reflux and cow's milk allergy in
infants: a prospective study. J Allergy Clin Immunol. 1996
Mar;97(3):822-7

Just for the sake of clarity, I don't know that my son met the
clinical criteria for reflux. But if CMP can trigger clinical
reflux, it seems reasonable to suppose that it can also trigger
less-severe garden-variety spittiness.
