I was disturbed today when I read a story in a free "newspaper" from my
local health food store. The story was supposedly written by the father of
an infant born with "mucomium ileus." The copy reads "My wife and I were
very concerned that Ethan was not able to receive his mother's colostrum in
her breastmilk....the hospital planned to freeze Renee's (the mother's)
colostrum, but that was not a comfort because we knew that freezing
denatures colostrum."

The story goes on to tell how the child was given a store bought cow
colostrum called "Liquid Colostrum" on the end of a pacifier and that this
substance saved the baby's life! It then tells us that even when Ethan was
able to take his mother's milk he was given it half and half, in a bottle
mixed with this cow product. When the store bought "colostrum" was
discontinued and full strength breast milk was given the child developed
severe diaper rash, was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis and was only saved
by using the cow product again!

The story was entitled "Born to Live-Our Colostrum Miracle Baby" it is in
the Fall 2000 issue of "Vital Health News" newspaper (actually an ad
vehicle for the health food store's products) Thier address is CNR
Publications PO Box 2620 Cottonwood AZ 86326 Phone no (888) 999-3831. e-
mail address is [log in to unmask] web addy:www.icnt.org

I will be writing them a letter about the inaccuracy of this article, I
will also go to the website to see if the story is posted there.

This is not the first claim I have heard that store bought, pasturized
cow's milk colostrum is better than human colostrum, but it is one of the
more arguable stories, since it concerns a newborn infant and is complete
with outrageous claims and misinformation.

Feel free to contact them, as a mass influx from the experts at Lacnet may
be able to help stem this damaging and innaccurate type of misinformation
from spreading.

TIA.
