Winnie,

Let me just add that I am tired of kits being sold as "one size fits
all". I have come across too many moms who are definitely pumping with the
wrong breastshield. To add insult to injury, they have seen or called other
LCs who NEVER bothered to ask about the breastshield size. Also because
these moms have been using a smaller shield for TOO long a period, the tips
of their nipples develop a shape that appears like it will fit a regular
breast shield. Often correct fit involves actually watching the nipple
expand in the pump. Some nipples are surprising. The coin measurements can
help over the phone, but whenever I have the opportunity--I make sure the
mom
has the correct shield on both sides. As we all know, sometimes that means
a
different size shield on the left than the right!

I have also often wished for a larger nipple shield. There is a
serious need for them as well. -- Debbie Albert, Ph.D., IBCLC
