Hi, All: I'm enjoying the discussion on the effectiveness (or not) of
nurse-ins. The Chicago Region Breastfeeding Task Force has hosted a Day At
the Zoo to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week for the last several years.
This year's date is August 6th and it's held at Lincoln Park Zoo in Chicago
in the Farm in the Zoo area of the main zoo. There are activities for
families like face-painting, clowns, balloons and "lots of breastfeeding
information, encouragement, and support". The event is well-attended
because it is held in a very public area, so that anyone passing by is
exposed to the information. Unfortunately, the media has never picked up
on it in any big way. I think something like this, where the public is
regularly exposed to breastfeeding information, comes across as less
sensationalistic, less fanatical, and therefore less threatening to the
public.
