You did not say if the mom ever did see an IBCLC. I agree with you that
follow-up in the US is generally terrible. I also agree that "Normal, healthy
babies nurse like normal, healthy babies. Babies who nurse poorly are having
other problems, and some of them, sadly, are very serious.", or as Barbara
W-C says, babies who don't nurse can't nurse.
     This was not a normal, healthy baby, so why would anyone expect normal,
healthy nursing? Babies do not just overcome this kind of insult. I am loathe
to say what you "could have done differently", b/c it can sound so
accusatory, but I would never delay an in-the-same-room consult with a dyad
with this kind of experience. IMO, they needed to be seen urgently by an
IBCLC and, IMO even more importantly by a CST/chiropractor. No matter what
else, she still needs the bodywork.
