       Yes, it is possible to relactate after quite a length of time.  Any
mother who breastfed a previous child and is now inducing a supply for an
adopted child is basically relactating.
       Just recently, I worked with the mother of a 21-month-old.  Baby had
self-weaned at 12 months, much to mom's dismay.  In the ensuing 9 months, baby
had not gone more than 1 week at a time without an ear infection.  Doctor
recommended that mom relactate because dr. was afraid toddler was going to lose
her hearing due to all the infections.  It was also learned at this time that
baby had self-weaned due to pain.  Her eustachian tubes are malformed and it
hurt when she moved her jaw to nurse!  Mom was able to bring in 6-8 ounces/day,
which she gave to toddler in a cup.  Getting just that one cup of breastmilk
each day allowed baby to go 3 consecutive months without an ear infection.
Unfortunately, at that point, mom became ill and ran a fever of 103 for 4 days,
and her milk dried up again.  But it is definitely possible, and offers
continuing health benefits to baby, to relactate after a long time of not
breastfeeding!
