this doesn't answer re: safety but from my personal experience, I (my
husband, my daycare providers...) loved the convenience of ice cube trays
with both of our first two sons. if I had a 6oz bottle pumped and poured it
right into a 12-cube tray, it was roughly 1/2oz per cube. I always recommend
it at work (well, not now, I'm home on bedrest since 32 weeks) for moms of
healthy term babies when they go back to work. and our mother/baby boutique
carries ice cube trays with lids for about $11 or $12 that someone marketed
specifically as "breastmilk storage freezer trays."
I was really looking forward to not touching my pump after boy #3 arrives
(first time I went back to nursing school when Sean was 2 weeks old, second
time I went back to work when Harrison was 5 weeks old because I used up all
my leave on bedrest with him from 32 weeks! this time I finally get to be a
full time mom) so wish me luck with keeping Lachlan in there till at least
mid/end Feb and not needing to store EBM in syringes, bottles, bags, or ice
cube trays!! Vicki Hayes RN IBCLC
