Like Valerie, I would interpret Jenna's case history rather
differently - though I know I am not there, and there may be aspects
that Jenna did not include in her account.

Seems to me that to have plateaued weight on day 8 is not such a big
deal - honestly - especially as the latch seemed fine. If it's a
concern, though, a gentler way to address it is to raise the number
of times the baby comes to the breast, and to encourage those around
the mother to give lots of practical help so she has no other 'jobs'
to do. Pumping round the clock and making up formula - and yes,
Valerie, I agree that 8 oz seems a lot - and all that fiddling about
are extra jobs! Sheila Kitzinger (I think it was she) talked about a
'babymoon' when mother and baby retire to bed for a few days and do
little else but cuddle up, skin to skin.

Not sure why the test weighings were done - now the mother knows, or
thinks she knows, how little the baby is getting, it's really hard
for her to cut back on the formula. Yet we know that isolated test
weights can be very misleading. The next non-weighed feed could be
huge!
