I agree with Patty that toys at the pediatrician's office pass germs, but
have you ever spent 30-90 minutes waiting with NO TOYS? At one point, my
ped had very few toys, mostly for infants. The magazines were for adults
with a very few children's books which may be more educational but are
equally susceptible to communicating illness. We'd all go nearly nuts
waiting to be seen unless the child was running a high fever and almost
comatose (exageration). I'd much rather risk the exposure to illness than
try to mollify an active a toddler/preschooler by reading Sesame Street
Magazine (if available or LHJ, if not) for more than 15 minutes. What I
like to see at a doctor's office are active toys: rocking horses, kitchens,
playhouses, etc. Alas these also spread germs as kids touch them, but at
least the wait is bearable.
