I cannot understand this, Dee. In what way will breastfeeding be bad
for this woman's kidney function? It is not up to us or you or the
mother to prove that it is harmful. It is up to this physician to
prove that it is, because there seems to be no rationale for what s/he
is saying. Why does s/he think the danger is? Just because? Perhaps
retaliation as you say?

The decision is the mother's, after all is said and done, and not the
physician's. When are physicians ever going to learn that they are
there to advise, not give commandments. No one can force me to have
treatment even for a potentially fatal illness if I don't want to,
even if the chances of success are very good.

If the physician is concerned about the effect on the baby, s/he
shouldn't. The toxins are generally not likely to get into the milk
in any significant amounts, first of all because with 30% function,
they will not accumulate significantly. Secondly, the baby should be
able to handle them in his gut fine, and thirdly because if any do get
absorbed, the baby with normal kidney function should be able to
handle them.
