Dear friends,

I read an article by Prof E.L.Shun'ko MD about some probiotics (in
Ukrainian).
She writes that they found that number of lactobacilli on the mother's skin
is rising in the last weeks of pregnancy, especially on mom's breast and
tummy. So newborn gets some good flora when placed on mom's chest
immediately after delivery. I cannot find reference for this in
English.

By the way, many mothers and doctors are very concerned with proper
colonisation of babies' guts
in our country and Russia. Dysbacteriosis is very popular condition here, so
we have lots of articles about probiotics and moms readily buy formulas with
"good" bacteria even for breastfed babies with said dysbacteriosis.

Sincerely yours,

Victoria Nesterova, breastfeeding supporter, mom to 3
