Excellent and thought-provoking post.
You are right, I see this too - separation, mismanagement, interventionist
policies etc have a big impact. Also some mothers do not stick w/ the
relactation long enough nor do the optimal interventions. Again, the quick
fix is looked for - the reglan.
Also I have heard that reglan will usually increase a supply 40% (did I hear
that?) so if the mom is getting 1.5 oz per day, she can expect to increase
to 1.5 + 40% = 2.1 oz.
