In answer to the query about "normal" amounts of colostrum a mom might pump in
the early PP period, there is some variation. If a mom is using a medical-
grade, double electric pump, I expect only drops for the first few pumpings.
Some moms may get up to 1/2 oz , but this is not typical. After that, amounts
increase slowly, up to 1 oz by the 3rd day or so. However, if mom and baby
are separated (in my area a baby could be transferred to a Level III nursery
about 90 miles away), pumping may not go quite as well, as far as amounts are
concerned. Of course I let moms know that any amount of previous colostrum is
just right!
