Hi all,

I am in need of help I have just seen a mom who has eroded nipples!!!
The nipple is partly missing and filled in with yellow granulation
looking tissue!! The left side is worse, but it is starting on the
right.
She is 11 days postpartum and has been breastfeeding Q2H with pain on
latch only, baby has surpassed birthweight, 8-9 diapers a day with
only 2 which are stools, baby also has a neonatal bilirubin on 17.6,
we are following that but are not interupting bfing. Mom is afebrile,
no redness or firm areas on the breast. Was examined by physician who
feels it is erosion but not infected or thrush, but went ahead and treated her
with Keflex in case. Mom wants to continue breastfeeding. SHe only
c/o pan with latch. I tried to get her to alternate breasts and
finger feed to give one breast a
break at each feed, but she doesnt want to do this. She is going to
cont with strictly bfing, toasting(dry heat for 5 min after each
feed), antibiotics and follow up on Monday. The nipple looks to me
like it is a decubitus, thus the reason I suggested dry heat in hopes
of promoting healing. She was using olice oil and breast shells for
inverted nipples. I instructed to stop olive oil for now. Does anyone
have any suggestions?? Please e-mail me at:
