Cindy this is interesting.  In our hospital, we have a jaundice teaching
sheet that we must go over with each and every parent.  The parent must also
sign this piece of paper.  On this sheet are listed "risk factors for
jaundice" and near the top of that list is "breast feeding".  I get really
irate about this because any time a parent hears breastfeeding referred to
as a negative (a risk factor), they immediately question whether or not they
should be giving formula instead and wonder if their infant will get sick
because they are breastfeeding.  I think I'll take Nina Berry's advice and
check the Academy of breastfeeding medicine.  I would love to be a part of
changing the handouts in our hospital.
