See, I told you that my next post would be about my radio interview today!

A midwife/LC, Shanee, (who's 15 year old son is my 15 year old son's best
friend) and I met at a radio station today to talk about breastfeeding on a
call-in show. Fortunately, I had brought some basic LLL materials, so I
was able to show it to the interviewer. She had never heard of LLLI!

Shanee was asked about the advantages of BF to the mother and then to the
baby. During a break, the interviewer said that she had breastfed her
daughter 28 years ago and she really didn't like it! She never said
anything negative on the air though.

I was asked what LLL is and what we do and when mothers should call us or
come to us. It was really nice to be able to give the history of LLL and to
give out phone numbers for the *2* LLL groups in Perth!

There was only one caller- which makes me think that nobdy was even
listening! It was a strange call too (maybe it was a set up). It was an
older woman who said that when she breatsfed her daughter 38 years ago she
did it only for as long as she had to. She hated it and felt like an animal
and totally degraded! She wanted to know why she felt this way.
Fortunately, Shanee tok the question and told the woman that she might want
to talk to a health profesional and tyr to explore her feelings. The the
interviewer asked me if I ever got calls from mothers who felt this way. I
answered that I had gotten calls like that and that often the woman neded
support and information to help her get going in a more positive way.

The it was time for the news and we were escorted out.

Shanee and I both talked after and we both had the same reaction to the
caller- sexual abuse? Of course we couldn't address that on the radio could we?

So, that's my claim to fame! I called my co-Leader and she tried to tape
it, but tuned in to the wrong station! There are only six radio stations in
Perth!
