We have many moms go for TL 24 hours PP. We have them breastfeed just
before going into surgery and then as soon as the surgery is over they
can feed again if the baby is awake. I find a lot of these babies are
still somewhat sleepy and don't require q 2 hr feeds every feed. If she
pumps the first 24 hours and gets any colostrum, that could be given if
needed. Sometimes hand expression works better for colostrum. I have
really not found it to be a big problem where I work. I don't know if
this will work for your situation. Works for us. Also having LDRPs, the
mom recovers in her room and having someone there to watch the baby and
hold the baby during the surgery usually helps everyone get through. 2
hours goes faster than you think. Most tubals don't take the full two
hours. Do you know what she is having for anesthesia? We usually use
epidural.
