Personally, I strongly agree with Heather's post about giving this
mother "permission"(as it were) to pump exclusively and give her milk by
bottle. As professionals, we have to acknowledge that there are many ways
to do everything and just because we support breastfeeding (the easy way)
there are others who do NOT share our views. In my humble opinion, the
mother who chooses to exclusively pump and bottle feed is making a far
bigger sacrifice in general than those of us who chose (despite our
circumstances)to actually put the baby to breast.

We hear the buzz words "think outside the box" frequently in our culture
and our area of lactation is just another area that should be included in
that type pf approach.

I would rather have a mother choose the pumping routine than decide
against breastmilk altogether just because something about the actual
feeding at breast puts her off.

We have to stop each time we encounter a client and remember that we are
supporting HER agenda: she is not supporting ours............

I think we need to look beyond "the code" etc., and support the mother in
her individual choices.
