Dear Lactnetters,
A happy New Year to all who celebrate the Western New Year -
Chinese New Year is yet to come.
I had a call from a mutual friend on the weekend about a woman who
is in line for an overseas adoption in mid-1999. She will be at the
birth. Though her uterus has been retained, she has *no* ovaries and is
currently on oestrogen/progestin replacement medication.
My query to those of you with pharmacological backgrounds concerns
what to do about the hormonal medication. Should she discontinue it (a)
gradually or (b) "cold turkey", beginning motilium when the baby is
born. When would be the optimal time to reduce/cut out the
oestrogen/progestin before receiving the adoptive baby? We have several
months to plan. (I am not concerned about the issue of stimulating the
system in the absence of ovaries, or the basis of relactation - just the
medication issues.)
     Many thanks,
        Virginia
