Ann Marie,
Personally, I'd like OB staff -- EVERYONE -- to hear over and over again the connection between birthing practices and breastfeeding. Docs and L&D nurses (who are usually my greatest allies as a doula) occasionally make comments like -- "don't worry, having a CS doesn't make any impact on a baby's ability to breastfeed", "The epidural won't cross the placenta", "Your labor will go faster and you'll feel more rested if you labor lying down", "Oh, you have flat nipples, you'll never be able to breastfeed" -- you get the idea.

I've just read "Impact of Birthing Practices on Breastfeeding - Protecting the Mother and Baby Continuum". It is so nice to see in print what many of us have known for years.

Good luck on your newsletter,
Dawn Martin, CD (DONA), IBCLC
Austin, TX
