I don't know what causes it, but I do know of a product available to healthy 
women (no hx breast cancer) non-surgical, that promotes breast growth.  I 
have a client who used this after involution when she was dismayed that her 
breasts had "deflated" and was  very pleased with results.

I have no financial interest in this product....just wondering what you all 
think.  I am also interested in learning what others think of the nipplette 
device to correct inversion, before pg/lactation.  I wonder that it might be 
painful, just as bf is often painful for women who present with inverted 
nipples,
but I wonder if some of the breast/nipple presentations that make 
latch/supply so difficult, like breast hypoplasia,  might be corrected non 
surgically prior to pg.....
wouldn't that be something....
