Hello Wise Women-

I am working with a woman 15 days post-partum who has almost no milk (~10mL
per pump session; baby transfers nothing) and no recollection of increasing
breast fullness after birth.

Until 2 week visit (when doc recommended supplementation due to 14% loss),
she had been feeding on demand 11+ times per day.

She has no red flags for low/no milk supply that I can think of (ruled out
low iron, PCOS, thyroid, fertility issues, diabetes, high blood pressure)
other than continued heavy-ish lochia. Taking no medications; reports no
additional medical conditions.I suggested she check with her OB regarding
retained placenta; don't know if he will be willing to investigate.

She also reports dull pain in her belly. Could this be related to a
retained placenta? She did have a fibroid grow significantly during
pregnancy causing pain? If placenta has been retained could this be feeding
the fibroid, producing continued pain?

She had lost all of 23 lb pregnancy weight by day 10 in spite of making
herself eat. She described her typical daily diet & it does sound like she
is eating plenty.

Could this weight loss be a marker of something I have missed?

Thanks for any thoughts!

Molly
