A reason for optimism today: On looking at the National Ad Council's Infant
and Child Nutrition Campaign, I was dismayed to find some errors, the most
disturbing being the following:

"Breastfeed your infant exclusively for at least 6 months. After six months,
breast milk may be alternated with an iron-fortified formula."

I wrote to them alerting them to this error, and said:

"Medical, nursing, and dietetic professional organizations, as well as the
US Government, agree:

 a)       For ABOUT six months, not for AT LEAST six months;

 b) The information about "alternating" breastmilk with formula is not
best practice. Best practice is to continue breastfeeding, not formula
feeding, but to offer an increasing variety of table foods."

The National Ad Council Web Manager wrote back within 24 hours, saying she
(?) had removed the offending phrase about alternating breastmilk with
formula.

We are still in dialogue about the rest of the recommendations, as I am now
pushing for changing the "4 to 6 months" to "about six months."

But such response! I received a serving of optimism today.
