When I was in nursing school at Bellevue in the 60's, I recall that we
had blanket warmers in all the delivery rooms (and we had lots of them).
The majority of moms shook so we automatically put 2-3 warm blankets on
them after delivery. At the time, we didn't use epidurals but did use
demerol and scopolamine. All the moms who came in in time (numerous
grand multips, like g15-20) got enemas and IVs as well. C/S got general.

If moms didn't get there in time to be prepped and just barely made it
to the table or delivered on the stretcher, they still shook.

It would be very interesting to know the physiologic process behind
this. I used to think we didn't have blanket warmers any more because we
delivered differently now. That's obviously not the case. Any info?
