If it allays any concerns about sensationalism or me simply not getting it, I 
have nothing but respect for women who are committed to nursing their 
children.   I also am a former editor of Mothering Magazine.   I don't think 
there's any intention on the part of the New York Times to make this a 
salacious story.   There's been so much reinforcement recently from various 
studies on the benefits of breastfeeding, and so much uproar over the mother 
in Champaign who lost custody temporarily, that it simply seems like the 
right time to meet the community and the experts in support of extended 
breastfeeding.
