I wasn't familiar with No Greater Joy ministries' "train up the child" concept but just came across it on the interet. it reminds me of ezzo :-(

concepts include using a switch on the back of the legs of a 5-month-old to teach not climbing up steps; "thumping" a baby on the back of the hand to teach not to reach for their cereal bowl; "training" a 10-12 month old to come immediately by leaving them alone to play with a toy, letting them get engrossed with it, then calling, leading them to the parent and explaining "you come immediately when I call," repeating and as soon as the child is happily playing alone with the toy, calling-leading-explaining, then by the 3rd time, the child should have learned what's expected of him and if he doesn't immediately come, "the father administers one or two swats with a switch and then continues the exercise until the child readily responds to his summons."

regarding putting a baby in his crib, "Either the tenderhearted mother will cave in to the child's self-centered demands (training the child to get his way by crying) or he will be allowed to cry (thus learning that crying is counterproductive)"
and that in response to a nursing baby biting his mother, the mother can pull the baby's hair " (an alternative has to be sought for bald-headed babies). Understand, the baby is not being punished, just conditioned"

I was wondering if any of you have encountered parents using this philosophy and do they advocate scheduled/time-limited feeds? what is their general attitude towards breastfeeding?

thanks,
