Hi, some might remember my post last Summer about me getting a really hard
time from the people at the Early Intervention in New York City. Then I was
suspected of "breastfeeding for nefarious reasons" , and actually reported
further on to the health department authorities that deal with vaccinations.
I had my annual review today. No problems and was actually praised for
breastfeeding. But my happiness comes from one little thing. My coordinator
has a two-year old child. She is not a young mother. Her other child is 17.
This time around I talked her into breastfeeding. She works full time and
leads a very active life. Also like a lot of those who survived Chernobyl
she deals with the thyroid issues. About six month ago her doctor told her
to wean because she was prescribed a heavy-duty antibiotic, and anyway -
"The baby is too old to breastfeed..."
She called me up, and thanks to this list she continued to breastfeed
successfully. Today, she casually mentioned that she is still nursing. And
has no plans to wean. She told me that her daughter loves nursing and she
found shat she feels a lot closer to her child than she would otherwise.
We were not even discussing nursing. We were talking about drafts from
the air conditioner.
It feels so good to know that I helped that relationship happen.
