Hi all,
A fellow Nursing Mothers' Association of Australia Counsellor has a mum
asking about the safety of breastfeeding her 5 month old during a (so far
unconfirmed) malaria relapse. She has had malaria from before the baby was
born and only had a relapse also prior to baby. She is seeking her doctor's
advice but just in case she doesn't like what he tells her, she was
wondering if she could get more information fairly quickly about the
effects on her baby. Baby is on solids, but she doesn't want to give
formula.

Please could someone give me information I can pass on to the mother in
this situation. What drugs might she be prescribed? Are there safer ones
for the baby? Is is likely that her supply will diminish because of the
stress on her body during the attack?

TIA
Joy
